Health and Safety Fairs
![]()
Health and safety fairs are often sponsored by elementary schools or children's clubs. These are designed to teach children about important ways to prevent accidents and have a healthy life. Our feature at health and safety fairs is of course animal safety. Over 50% of children under 12 years old have been bitten by a dog, and most often they are dogs that are familiar to the child (like theirs, a neighbors or friends pet). And more than 800,000 of these children require medical attention for their bite wounds.
Teaching our children how to be safe around pets and to respect their instincts and personalities is important to the staff New Hope Animal Hospital. Dr. Belknap owns a registered therapy dog, a chocolate lab named Bandit, and one of our education-minded clients Rosie Lovell helps and brings her therapy dog, a fawn and white Boxer Q.P. We actively participate in these events. Remember to teach your child to be safe around pets, and make sure your pet is child-friendly and well-socialized!
