(Prepared to aid in Hurricane Rescue)

Please cross post or hand this out to any shelter, rescue program, veterinarian, dog club or animal rescue volunteer who may be involved in rescue of any dog. Thank You.

This list was prepared to aid in the Hurricane 2005 rescue effort. Most all breed clubs have rescue programs. Under normal circumstances, they will responsibly rescue pure bred dogs, search for the owners of strays, have them properly treated by a veterinarian, spay or neuter them, and responsibly place them in loving homes. These programs are limited by their funding so usually cannot rescue mixed breeds and may not be able to rescue all of their own breed if it's a popular one. However, during this nation's worst natural disaster, many are stepping up and rescuing those that may also have some mixed blood but still identifiable as their breed. Many clubs and/or their members are also supporting any animal in need as far as their donations will stretch. So this list may be a valuable tool to keep handy and use often.

A great many websites listing these clubs & rescue programs have at least some out of date information. This is due to high turnover in these voluntary positions and new officers or web designers not knowing where to send updated information. This list below was the best up-to-date information we could find and we thought it would be beneficial to share it.

No doubt this list (like many websites) will become out of date again but it may still be useful for years to come. Just contact the numbers below and ask them for the latest contact information for their club. AKC keeps a list of this type as well at: http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm
